Nurse's Office
Info Guide:
  1. When an accident occurs, it must be reported at once to the teacher in charge, who will refer it to the school nurse and any other necessary authorities or medical personnel.
     
  2. Students must have a pass/hallway passport to go to the nurse’s office.
     
  3. Scoliosis screening is done every other year to check for abnormal curving of the spine. This is a New Jersey State Law. A student who does not want this done must submit a written note from his/her parents/guardians to the school nurse/ The note must state they do not want their child screened. The nurse will include this with the student’s health record.
     
  4. All students participating in athletics are required to have a physical examination. Students are encouraged to have the physical exam performed by their home physician who will complete the approved school form. If a student does not have a home physician, the schools doctor will perform the physical exam.
     
  5. The school nurse will screen students yearly for vision, blood pressure, height and weight. Hearing will be tested in the tenth grade.
    Mantoux- TB testing will be done each year by the school nurse on all students who have transferred to the district from out of state. This is a New Jersey State Law. (18A:40-16).
Emergency Cards:
An emergency card must be completed for each student each year. The cards are kept in the nurses office and include the students and parents/guardians names, addresses, phone numbers and the names addresses and phone numbers of other persons who could be notified in case of an emergency. The card also asks for a parent/guardian signature granting permission for the nurse to dispense Acetaminophen to their child if he/she suffers from headache, fever or pain.
Immunizations:
It is a New Jersey State Law (89:57-4.2) that all students be immunized against the following:
a) MMR-measles, mumps & rubella (after their first birthday). Second shot required if born after 1990.
b) DPT- diphtheria, pertussis & tetanus (4 doses).
c) Polio vaccine (3 doses).
d) Hepatitis B (vaccination series).
Medication Procedure:

The following procedure must be followed for a student to take medication during school:

  1. Parents/guardians must sign the emergency card in the beginning of the school year.
  2. All medication must be stored in the nursed/health office. If the medicine is a prescription drug, the bottle must be labeled by the pharmacist and include the name of the student name of the drug, direction for taking the medicine and the doctors name. Students are to present the medication, along with a complete medication form for the nurse/health office with parents and physicians signature.
  3. Students may not carry medication (prescription or nonprescription) unless previously approved by the nurses office. Violators are subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the district drug policy.
  4. Students may carry their own inhalers with a physician and or parent note on file in the health office
