AcademicsCCTS Logo

High school students at CCTS spend part of their school day in their career programs and part of their day in academic courses in order to obtain a well rounded education. Required academic courses include English, history, mathematics, science and physical education. The level in which a student will be placed is based on multiple factors. These include the student's academic record, teacher recommendations, and performance on standardized tests. College-bound students who meet eligibility requirements may be able to enroll in college prepatory courses such as Honors English, Pre-calculus, and Spanish I and II. In order to graduate from high school, the state of New Jersey requires that all students pass the Grade 11 High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA).

Graduation Requirements - August 2011 - more..

Class Rank

Rank in class is computed at the end of junior year.  Final class rank is computed at the end of the third marking period during the senior year.

HSPA

To meet the state’s graduation testing requirement for a high school diploma, 11th grade students must score at or above the passing score for all sections of the HSPA.

The HSPA scores are reported as scale scores with a range from 100 to 300. The passing score is 200.

Students who do not pass one or more sections of the HSPA in March of their junior year may retake the test in October and/or March of their senior year.  Seniors who have not passed one or more sections of the test may fulfill the testing requirement through an Alternate High School Assessment (AHSA).

Alternate High School Assessment (AHSA)

The Alternate High School Assessment is the designated alternate assessment for the HSPA and is available to students who have met all the high school graduation requirements except for demonstrating proficiency in all content areas of the HSPA. The AHSA is aligned to the HSPA test specifications to ensure that students who demonstrate proficiency through the AHSA have demonstrated the same knowledge, skills and performance levels as students who are proficient on the HSPA.

Innovative Programs

Project Based Learning/Integrated Studies

Students enrolled in any Academy will participate in project-based learning for their academic studies. This method, also known as Integrated Studies Program (ISP), is a comprehensive approach to instruction in which students are evaluated on individualized rubrics.  This initiative is a student-centered, student-driven and project-based program that focuses not only on knowledge but on the transfer of knowledge across the various academic areas and the application of knowledge to real-world scenarios.  This format is non-traditional, and classes will be a blend of college-style seminar and research courses that will allow students to advance at their own pace.  Students in our Academies were chosen to participate in this style of academic learning because of the natural rigor, creativity and critical thinking skills that are required for student achievement. The challenges and inspiration that this program provides helps students achieve success as they prepare to compete in a global economy.
