Academics
High school students at CCTS spend part of their school day in their
career programs and part of their day in academic courses in order to
obtain a well rounded education.
Required academic courses include English, history, mathematics, science
and physical education. The level in which a student will be placed is
based on multiple factors. These include the student's academic record,
teacher recommendations, and performance on standardized tests.
College-bound students who meet eligibility requirements may be able to
enroll in college prepatory courses such as Honors English, Pre-calculus,
and Spanish I and II.
In order to graduate from high school, the state of New Jersey requires
that all students pass the Grade 11 High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA).
Career Programs
In today's complex world, there are many paths to success. These paths may
include becoming a skilled worker in a specialized field or study, owning
a business, or becoming a college trained professional. Being successful
also means that you like what you do. Students at CCTS are encouraged to
enroll in career programs that match their interests and abilities. To
meet the diverse needs of the community, CCTS offers 22, four-year career
programs for high school students.
High school students may choose to attend our Pennsauken Campus or our
Gloucester Township Campus. Students attend school for the entire day;
part of the day is spent in career training, and part of the day is spent
in academic classes.
College
Credits for High School Courses
High school students at CCTS may participate in programs which allow them
to gain college credits for courses taken that can be applied toward
degree programs at various two- and four-year colleges.
Currently, the following career programs provide opportunities for
students to earn college credits while in high school: Allied Health
Careers, Automotive Technology, Business Technology, Drafting, Electric,
Electronics, Marketing Education, and Ornamental Horticulture.
Additional programs are being evaluated for college credit consideration.
Life After Graduation
Vocational-technical education offers students a unique service. It trains
them to succeed in fulfilling careers of their choice. It expands
students' horizons by providing transferable skills and workplace
attitudes. It enriches college-bound students' backgrounds by preparing
them for many post-secondary programs.
Upon successful completion of any of our career programs, students have
many options from which to choose. They may:
Obtain entry-level, full-time employment in their fields of study.
- Become apprentices on the job in many
of the technical and trade areas.
- Remain on-the-job obtained through our
school-to-work program and work full-time.
- Work part-time and attend
post-secondary institutions to advance to higher level positions on
the job.
- Attend the Technical Institute of
Camden County for tuition-free advanced training.
- Enroll in two- and four-year colleges.
Lifetime Job Placement Assistance
Graduates of CCTS have a free lifetime job placement service available to
them. The district maintains a computerized data base to access other
employers in New Jersey and across the nation.
In our job placement office, graduates
register their skills and employers register their needs. The skills and
needs are then matched by our full time job development coordinator with
no fees to anyone. Graduates may return to use this service anytime.

School-to-Careers Training
The Apprenticeship, Cooperative Vocational Education, and other School-to
Careers programs offer on-the-job training experiences for students
enrolled at CCTS. In their junior or senior year, students may be eligible
to attend school for half of the day and for the rest of the day they may
work for standard wages in occupations that relate to the career programs
for which they were trained. A qualified coordinator from the school
assists students and cooperating businesses.
When our students graduate, many of them are hired full-time by their
employers. Some continue to work part-time and attend college part-time.
Apprentices and co-op students have an advantage over other high school
graduates because they have work experience plus a high school diploma.
This is a combination highly favored by prospective employers.
