The School of Communication Art

Commercial Graphics and Design

Gloucester Township Campus

This program is designed for students who wish to learn basic principles of design, illustration, and computerized graphics (desktop publishing). Areas of instruction include basic illustration, color, typography, design, including web design, and layout in both manual and computerized processes. Applications are performed using Macintosh computer systems. Students will develop portfolios of their work to show to prospective employers. Employment opportunities may include the fields of commercial art and freelance art. Graduates may also open their own design studios.

Students who meet eligibility requirements may have the opportunity to earn college credits for units of study within this career program.


 

Printing/Graphics Arts

Gloucester Township Campus and Pennsauken Campus

Students enrolled in the Printing/Graphic Arts program learn printing techniques from offset printing on paper, to silk screen process on fabric and other materials. Students are taught on both large and small format one- and two-color presses. Operation of the Printing/Graphic Arts program includes everything from computer design to actual production and binding the finished project. Software applications are the same as used in today's industry.

Also at the Gloucester Township Campus, students have the opportunity to learn high-end computerized embroidery and digitizing, a popular field that is still growing.Graduates of the Printing/Graphic Arts program may become desktop publishers, and pre-press, press operators, and bindery and finishing operators.

This program is certified by PrintED, a national accreditation program. Graduates may easily find employment in this field as the tri-state area has the largest numbers of printers in the nation. Graduates may also continue their education in a related field at the college level.


 

Video Production

Gloucester Township Campus

The Video Production Program is designed as a hands-on program that takes the student through the video production process step by step, learning the techniques that are used by working professionals.

Students participate in all phases of production from pre-production through post-production. Students work with DV cameras and edit their projects on computers equipped with the latest software. Students will develop a video resume of their work, which is needed to obtain employment in this highly competitive field.

Since this program is designed for motivated students who wish to work in video production, a solid background in communication skills (English) is necessary for entrance into this program.

Graduates may find employment or continue their education in this field at the college level.
