Early Childhood/Baking Pastry Arts
On Friday October 21, 2011, the children in the Early Childhood Education Center and the students of the Early Childhood Academy traveled to the high school bake shop for a cookie decorating workshop. Mr. Sharpe and his class helped our children get their smocks and hair nets on, and placed large cookie trays in front of them. The children started out with 5 pumpkin sugar cookies to decorate with yellow, pink, blue, green, purple, and orange homemade icing. The children were asked to use finger painting skills to decorate their cookies any way they wanted to. The children enjoyed the event. The children also decorated cookies shaped like people. They continued to mix the icings together to make master piece cookies. They had a great time in the bake shop and a holiday cookie workshop is in the planning process.
Skills USA - Lowes
After submitting a comprehensive grant, the SkillsUSA and FBLA Clubs at the Gloucester Township Campus received a $10,000 grant from the Lowe’s Educational Foundation. This was the highest amount paid to any school in New Jersey.
The grant specified, that if awarded the funds, our SkillsUSA club would partner with two local, very worthy organizations. The organizations chosen were the Canuso Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House.
Our carpentry teachers and students built storage sheds to be used at local Ronald McDonald Houses. The rest of the money will be used to build “Lowe’s Team Racing” homework kiosks utilizing Apple i-pads at Cooper Hospital’s pediatric cancer unit for the Canuso Foundation’s Babe’s Kids – Kids Helping Kids program.
On Friday, October 7, 2011 at 12:30 pm, representatives from Lowe’s visited Camden County Technical Schools to check on the progress of the grant requirements and congratulate the students for their outstanding efforts. They were very impressed with the sheds that were built and congratulated the students and SkillsUSA advisors, Mrs. Mary Holben and Mr. Mark Quattrone.
