IT Academy
Camden County Technical Schools will be opening an Information Technology (IT) Academy in September 2008. Eighth graders are now being recruited for what is anticipated to be a highly sought after program at the district’s Gloucester Township Campus. Parents are encouraged to consider early enrollment to ensure their child’s placement in the IT Academy Program. And the best news is, tuition and transportation are both FREE for residents of Camden County.
The Academy approach will allow students and faculty to work within the confines of a “small learning community” which will offer opportunities for enhanced academic and career success. Students selected for the program will begin by participating in a two-week summer institute prior to start the school year. This summer enrichment program will be led by Camden County College faculty members who will introduce students to the expansive world of information technology. Students will learn how IT reaches into every corner of business and industry regardless of the specific enterprise. While at CCTS, students in the IT program will also have the opportunity to participate in electives, sports, clubs and other school related activities. They may also participate in mentorship, job shadowing and cooperative education employment opportunities during their junior and senior years.
After successfully graduating from the program and earning their high school degree, graduates will be awarded up to 20 college transferable credits (waiving almost one year of college).
Our school district is partnering with the Microsoft IT Academy Program which works with academic institutions to offer top-quality education programs in order to help students reach their academic and career potential. The program will enable Camden County Technical Schools to:
• Offer a world-class technology curriculum including rich online learning resources
• Link academic learning to real-world job skills
• Create a skilled workforce for employers such as Lockheed Martin and Campbell Soup
• Connect students and instructors to Microsoft for lifelong personal and professional
technology skills development
