This program is designed to
help students explore various careers associated with the expanding
health care industry. The first two years will focus on introductory
theory and applications in keyboarding, anatomy and physiology, and
nursing fundamentals I and II. At the end of their sophomore year,
students will choose either the non-patient care option or the
direct-patient care option.
The non-patient care option
will build skills needed for careers such as medical office
assistants, medical receptionists, medical transcriptionists, and
unit secretaries.

Training in this option will
include mathematics for health careers, medical terminology with
pharmacology, medical transcription, medical office procedures and
applications, professional development and communications.
The direct-patient care
option will prepare students for careers as patient care assistants,
hospital aides/attendants, multi-skilled health technicians, or
certified nursing assistants. Training will include anatomy and
physiology, psychology, nursing fundamentals III with EKG, nursing
fundamentals IV, and nutrition. Upon completion of Level IV,
students either take the Certified Nursing Assistant Examination or
the Certified Homemaker Home Health Aide Examination.
Students who meet
eligibility requirements may have the opportunity to earn college
credits for units of study within this career program.
